The Center of Excellence in Crisis Management and Disaster Response at the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Bulgaria and Bulgarian Modeling and Simulation Association – BULSIM jointly organized international seminar “Development of Mechanisms, Tools and Practices for Crisis and Emergency Response Using Modeling and Simulation”, which took place in Sofia from 26 to 28 June 2012. The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Defense Mrs. Avgustina Tzvetkova. The Director Col. Prof. Mitko Stoykov outlined the development of the Center as an accredited by NATO Center and analytical unit for supporting the operative activities of the responsible structures in crisis management and disaster response. The Chairman of BULSIM Mr. Nikolay Tomov presented the mission, vision and aims of the Association, the competences of its members and the accomplished projects. He emphasized on the importance of the modeling, simulations and serious games as an interdisciplinary approach for cost effectiveness in analyses of crises events and processes and for capabilities development in crisis management.
Future participants in the international exercise SEESIM 2012 and foreign representatives attended at the seminar. The event comprised two parallel sessions. The first session included speakers’ presentations from Governmental organizations, NGOs and private companies. During the second session it was able to be observed technological demonstrations of tools and methods for crisis management and disaster response, based on technologies from modeling, simulation and visualization domains.
Leading world companies in the simulation area as MASA Group, PRESAGIS, ANTYCIP Simulations, ALION Science and Technologies, SAAB and others presented their unique products and solutions for training and decision-making support in crisis management.
